After so many days at home, I get an inkling to travel. But after so many days of traveling, I can’t wait to be home.
On April 8th, 2024, my husband and I experienced the solar eclipse. Although cloudy, we saw the stark transition from light to dark.
But the eclipse made me think about everything I can’t see, like the rhythms of the moon or changes in nature. We had to travel thousands of miles to New York to witness totality, but the changes in California were subtle.
Thinking about seen and unseen reminded me that humanity has a lot going on under the surface too. We passed by many people in Times Square, but we didn’t know their story. We don’t know their profession, background, or circumstances, and it reminded me to be compassionate. Even if someone stepped on my toe or knocked me over.
I’m reminded to be grateful for the experiences I have and to give others the benefit of the doubt wherever we may wander.
