Abbey Wedgeworth, creator of the beloved Training Young Hearts series and the devotional Held shares practical tools for raising kids. We discuss how the gospel shapes everyday parenting.
Abbey shares honest highs and lows of motherhood, the beauty of raising three boys, and the importance of helping children see that Jesus was a child too—one who always used His hands, words, and heart for good.
She also explains her idea of training refrains—simple, repeatable phrases that replace frustration with gospel truth—and offers encouragement for moms.
We love these books and I loved chatting with Abbey, enjoy!
Abbey’s Bio
I’m Abbey. I'm the thankful wife of David, who I met while working for RUF shortly after I finished my time at UNC Chapel Hill. Together, we have three young sons, who I spend my days homeschooling. We live, work, and play on the beautiful SC coast, where David sells real estate and I manage our home, write, and raise our boys.
I love to travel to speak and to teach the Bible, but my favorite place to serve is at our home church, Hilton Head Presbyterian Church (PCA)..
I get fired up about fall weather, planting and growing things, writing, sewing, french country furniture, theology, baking, good books, and good conversation. Discipleship and Bible Literacy are my passions, and I love to see the way that the gospel transforms how people think and live. I particularly love to apply that good news to the subjects of shame, parenting, motherhood, marriage, and miscarriage..
In 2020 I released my first book, Held: 31 Biblical Reflections on God’s Comfort and Care in the Sorrow of Miscarriage. In 2023, my children’s book series, “Training Young Hearts” was born. This series is so close to my heart! With titles like “Your Amazing Hands!” and “What are Mouths for?” this collection of rhyming books for kids 3-6 and lift-the-flap books for kids 0-3, help kids look to Jesus in their failures and depend on the Spirit for grace-motivated obedience. I occasionally write for other platforms, send a monthly newsletter called “Here’s Something”, and regularly micro-blog on Instagram. If you’d like, you can find more writing and podcast interviews here.”
