I’m thinking about the late nights we’d spend in the city - young and carefree and so alive.
We’d wine and dine and maybe catch the latest exhibition at the Met, or take a stroll around the park and breathe in the crisp autumn air.
We were caught up in the thrill of young love, it was exhilarating. We were living our best lives.
Tonight, it’s barely 7pm and the three of us are all curled up in bed after a long day.
We squeeze close under a soft blanket, because she asked to snuggle. She smells like baby oil- I breathe her in and close my eyes as I listen to you sing her a lullaby. You make up the words.
We laugh and sing and read together. I marvel at this beautiful life we’ve created together.
Do you grow and change slowly, barely even noticing- or does it happen all at once?
I can’t pinpoint the moment when we stopped being that young and carefree couple. I’m not quite sure how our love transformed into the kind where you grow old together.
But somewhere along the line, it did, and I’m so grateful for it. I’ll gladly skip the city lights for this.
My best life is wherever you are.
